One Dimensional Antichrist, 2008 represents the kind of work that G. Mohamed done. His representation about the figurative elements tends to the de-figuration, with ambiguity and broken line draw. His art is about identity, reflexion, concentration and animalist. Main influences are symbolism, surrealism, Lautremont, Duchamp. Sometimes the paintings of Gorka Mohamed express meaningless and absurdity. The loose about identity, the non-recognition of the self and the journey as a way of life are recurrent in his paintings. His paints and drawings part from Novel, imaginary, imagination, concatenation, short novel, and Breton writing. But what became symbol is not the object, but the subject. He displaces to the character what in vanguard art was focused in the object. I learnt love is the most beauty dance of these days.

I really liked the idea of drawing on this facade and the possibility of documenting its demolition soon after the drawing was completed. This project was part of the NON-TOXIC D'ART URBA FESTIVAL, BADALONA 2008 at Galeria Badiu curated by Arcadi Poch and Naomi Daniel. There is an artist called Jorge Rodríguez Gerarda who has been doing a very interesting worck about the Identity. I have seen some one of his worcks in Madrid and is very good.

IDENTITY …….

Committing yourself is a way of finding out who you are. A man finds his identity by
identifying. A man’s identity is not thought of as the way in which he is separated from his
fellows but the way in which he is united with them.

I am interested in madness. I believe it is the biggest thing in the human race and the most
constant. How do you take away from a man his madness without also taking away his identity ?
I began wearing hats as a young lawyer because it helped me to establish my professional identity. Before that, whenever I was at a meeting, someone would ask me to
get coffee.

Identity means as well feminity and masculinity. One of the main characters that personalize this concept was Rrose Sélavy, an androgynous character from Marcel Duchamp. To identify, the primitive word that identity comes from, is a visual act. Then it belongs to the visual sense. Some psychiatrist has spoken about the mirror stage, when the subject can identify himself in front of the mirror and his own body and mind became completely one, then he gets his identity. It’s like an adolescent process and it’s characterized for transparency and glass sensuality, like Rrose Sélavy tried to express. In this art work Duchamp tries to exemplify the simply complex of transparency.

Intimacy is a groups of photos that Pablo has been doing for time. The expression about identity it’s categorized from the traditional disciplines. Auto-portrait and models portraits express the dialogue between model and artists and how he can be represented from her. Otherwise, they are expressing how the representation differs from reality, putting the art between the real and fiction. How can you identify yourself when reality has turned into fiction? Painters and sculptors often acknowledge the importance of trust in the relationship between artist and model, but many photographers go a step farther, believing it to be essence of a successful picture. The empathy between photographer and the subject offsets a potentially exploitative dynamic: it is what allows a sexually charged image to transcend the pretentiousness of erotica and the egotism of pornography.

Nens Ferms is a personal drawing project from Hector Castells. He has created an alter ego who appears in his drawings and like a squizo character it shows the subconscious part from his IDENTITY that symbolizes one of the complex situations between artist, society and ethic. He is also interested in violence and voyeurism. In his video works spokes about genre identification, feminine and masculine role and how they are affected by relationship, dialogue and violence. In his videos try to find ways to depict a representation of reality as raw as possible. Castells engages the viewer confronting them with a harsh reflection of the society we operate within. Castell’s work uses the brutal forces of the everyday, as shocking and confrontacional.

I Don’t Speak English is a simply learning method. By the time, it will get its objective. The work is about the necessity of communication. It also express how to occupy the unique own space in an unknown setting. The schenery is always the same: the four walls in the room, which progressively are being invaded by words and popular English expressions. The video is about the relationship between the artist and the place and it develops the idea about IDENTITY. How the artist is identified with this new place and how the place could make him to change. I don’t speak English! it’s a video that shows a room that it’s been re – decorated for the influence of a new place – London – that can change his own IDENTITY. The video has been exposed in a group show at Laboral Ciudad de las Artes y Cultura.
